breeders in Oregon

Just found this tribe, many thanks for starting it. We are looking for a puppy in the spring. We would like to find a reliable breeder in Oregon/SW washington. We want a dog who is sound, good temperment meaning will be good with kids. Any dog we get will be neutered as we are not interested in producing puppies or showing in confirmation. Any recommendations, suggestions would be welcome.

sad news

sorry for this post. i just have something i need to get off my chest.
my dog snickers passed away last march. i can't seem to get over it so i will write and share what ive been thinking.

Its amazing how angry we can get at our dogs when they track mud in the house, or chew or bark and then when they are gone how we would give anything to have to clean his paws again, wipe the nose prints off the windows, pretend not to notice the teeth marks in our shoes at the bar, ask him time and again not to bark at nonsense.

we were incredibly bonded, and have been accused of being codependent, but i never cared all i knew was how much fun we had together, and how much i loved him. if only running through the snow after absolutly nothing and settling for doggie tag could never end. attacking my boyfriend when he returned home for work LOL he could never be mad because it was always hilarious. its true that he was a kind dog even. ive known so many dogs and he was so exceptional, amazingly he was at times concerned for ANYTHING that was hurt. he once whined at a park for an injured bird! leaving me a confused human. snickers aren't you supposed to be a fierce predator? when my sisters dog (tristan) had his eye removed he protected her dog for the entire visit not letting anything near him (except us of course) and we had to try to keep him from licking tristans wounds. and LOL he performed the same protective and fatherly behavior whenever my boyfriend was drunk, and once snickers layed on his arms so he would quit flaling and being weird and sat alert and protective in case any predator decided to attack my drunk boyfriend. i thanked snickers for taking him off my hands that night lol. Oh and how he turned from a big scary bear to a timid lap dog whenever thunder boomed HAHA he was bigger than me and he still would jump into my lap like scooby doo. he always offered a furry paw and tongue bath for tears i could use those now. i miss him so much.

my boyfriend is wanting a dog right now, and im so excited for him, but am a bit still just missing snickers. some days are better than others ive been told this is normal grieving, and again sorry for the silly post im just missing him today.

Angel saved my Life

It's funny when I first got my Akita/Wolf mix Angel I said "this dog will probably save my life on several occations". Well last night was the first. It was about two in the morning and Angel was tied up outside, because he ran away for 1/2 an hour yesterday. I was fast asleep. All of a sudden my dog let out a bark that made me stand up straght in my sleep. This bark seemed to crawl right into my dreams and yank me out of bed. I look around and three of the four walls in my room are on fire. I exclaimed "O no you don't" and grab my blanket smoothering every flame I could see. It took quite a few moments and then my roomate came up with water and we finally got it out. I was warned in the nick of time, only a few moments longer and the whole room would have been out of our hands. Thanks Angel.
The moral of the story is to love your Akita

Hi.
I'm wondering about local activities, parks, beaches or recommended sources of play space for our beast.

What types of activities do your dogs enjoy most and what are they most successful at?

Our akita/lab/? is a great dog, we'd love to find friends to play with!
Akita Mix Puppy

I know this is a listing already, but for those that might have missed it, here it is. I want Ian (who we called Buddy) to have the best chance possible of finding a good home.

there is a puppy at the Solano SPCA in Vacaville, CA up for adoption. His name is Ian and is an Akita/Border Collie mix (though they originally told us he was a border collie/lab mix). Ian is absolutely adorable and for the most part he is sweet as sugar. However, he is a special needs dog and needs someone that is willing to be VERY dominant. he will likely be 80+ lbs. Unfortunately for Ian he's been shuffled around a lot in his young age and it wasn't his fault.

My boyfriend, his 7 yo son, and I went to the Solano SPCA to adopt a dog in need. We found Ian and when we did all of the normal behavior tests he passed. We took him as a foster. They never told us that he would have issues. Since they were adopting him to us knowing we had a child, and knowing that they are supposed to behavior testing on their dogs we thought it would work out.

Unfortunately he ended up being VERY food/possession aggressive along with dominance and dog aggression. We had him for a week, but we just weren't experienced enough to keep him. Our vet recommended returning him because he was too much of a liablilty for us, esp with a 7yo. In that week we all fell in love with him despite his issues and it tore us apart to return him, but we had to do what was best for all parties involved.

The SPCA's trainer has been working with him for over a month and he has apparently improved. He is back up for adoption. So if you or someone you know is looking for a dog and is experienced in handling/training, has a dominant personality, has no children, no other pets, and has plenty of time to spend with him, Ian would be perfect. He is very loyal, but only to one person. He is also extremely intelligent (we taught him sit, stay, come, wait, down, and to go to the bathroom on command just in the week we had him).

His listing on petfinder is: http://www.petfinder.org/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=4348676&adTarget=468petsgeneral&SessionID=426ecbd3718a3d7b-app1&display=&preview=1&row=25&tmpl=&stat=
